Time Mangement for Students

Time wait for no man and that also goes for students. Sometimes as students in college we can easily be distracted by partying, television shows, and down right laziness. As a college student you can't let your work pile up and overflow to the point where you become overwhelmed when it's time to buckle down.

Most people who become victims of this are students with poor studying habits. As college students we are naturally stressed and can easily be defeated. It would come in handy if they would have had a lesson on time management and ways to  keep calm when faced with a ton of work.

1. Make a to-do list every day
2. Keep your work with you
3. Don't be afraid to say no
4.Find your productive time
5.Create a dedicated study time
6.Budget your time
7.Don't get sidetracked
8.Get a good night's sleep

Making a to do list will help with determining whats the most important task of the day, don't put something off because its hard try and knock those off first. Keep your work with you at all times because you never know when you will have down time. Don't be afraid to say no to your friends when they ask you to go out when you know you have work to do.

Finding your productive time means find the time of the day when your most focused and not easily distracted. Not times when your friends are around and easily prone to get you off task. A time of day that you have nothing to do and no where to go would be a perfect time to just find yourself a quiet corner and work.

Create a dedicated study time for each day depending on your class schedule. The 20 or 30 minutes in between classes are perfect moments to go over material from the previous lass or notes for the class your about to go to. Budget your time wisely and don't waste it on surfing the net on random topics.  Give yourself a certain amount of time to get a particular task done. I know personally that when you find yourself doing online work you can easily get distracted by surfing your favorite websites or constantly checking your various social medias. Not getting sidetracked is an important thing because in college its a lot of things going on that might caught your attention but you must stay focus. Get some sleep don't stay up all night try and be well rested for you can get the most of your day.

Time is a think you can't get back its that thing in life that doesn't stop. Spend your time wisely!!!!!!

Loosing Weight the Right Way!

As Human being we are never satisfied with our bodies we often try and find things wrong with us that we need to improve on. Especially when it comes to loosing weight we try the crazy things that don't make any sense at all. Loosing weight is not just something we can do in a month or two months at least not in a healthy way.

Deciding to loose weight comes with a lifestyle change that takes a lot of commitment and dedication. Most don't stick to their diet because they can't fight the urge to not eat the things that got them to this point where they are unhappy.  Before you decide to try and diet make sure you want too and can make this diet thing work for you.

10 Ways to Loose Weight
1. Eat breakfast.
2. Don't skip any meals.
3. Be active or exercise for 30 minutes a day.
4. Drink water instead of soda.
5. Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
6. Pack your own snacks.
7. Eat dinner at home.
8. Buy small amounts of different fruits.
9. Eat the "heavy" foods first.
10. Five foods to eat. Five to avoid.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that's when your suppose to eat your biggest meal because its burned off by your body through out the day. Skipping meals is the wrong thing to do because you are starving your body and when you eat again your taking in more calories. Find something that you love that involves moving around actively. Try and do that for at east 30 minutes instead of going to the gym, and just doing something to say you went to the gym. Drinking water is important especially when your not that hungry and your just eating to eat water can fill that emptiness in your stomach. Fruits and vegetables give your body that natural energy it needs to keep running to help you avoid eating candy, they are low on calories  and they fill you up. Try to cut eating at restaurants they are high in fat and calories. Try to avoid foods like pasta, soda, package snacks like cookies and cupcakes.

Is Your Facebook professional?

Us as students at this immediate time can be very careless about what we post on social networks. We feel that because my page is "private" no can see what I post or " I deleted that picture years ago".

Statements made like this can be detrimental to your future. What you post to a public or private account can always been seen no matter how you try to hide it. One thing about the internet is no matter what you post or when you delete it, it will always be there for people to go back to and look at.

At some job interviews they will ask "why do you want this job?" or "What makes you qualified?". Questions like this are very standard for an interview, but would you be surprised if they asked you to log in into your Facebook and other social networks in front of them? You would be surprised and embarrassed by what may be on your wall.

It's not only your post their looking at, but the people you associate with as well. You should try your best to screen the things people post on your wall, especially if they don't reflect your personal views.

Staying Focused on Your Dream! Part 2

Welcome back to my blog! I guess part one had you baffled and wanting to read more about my life and all through it all I keep perspective and stayed focused. It may seem to you that I might have it all together, but by keeping perspective I feel lie I have it all only at the age of 20.

Here are the last three tips and my personal experience to help you find your way in this walk we call life. You may not be going through the exact things as I did, but we all have one similarity.

Tip #9. The Best tap into a greater power than themselves

The Best tap into a greater power than themselves. I don’t know how I do it sometimes but no matter how I feel I still get up every morning and get things done to put myself in a better spot then I was yesterday. I look at myself sometimes and ask myself “How did I do all that?”, sometimes it feels like it’s not enough hours in the day and I’m struggling to get by. It always seems to work itself out, and I do what people once told me I couldn’t. Even when I’m out there playing golf I find a greater power because I have a plate in my hand and it hurts sometimes to hit the ball so bad that I shed a tear from time to time. I dig deep within me block out the pain and contributed to my team as much as possible giving them everything I have plus more. I am a Women of faith and I believe in the impossible. A scripture I live by is: Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” I paraphrased that scripture and had it tattooed on my back because I carry that word with me all through my life. It reads: “I Love You At Your Darkest.”, and it simply means that no matter my flaws and trails he loves me regardless of my failures. I Never sike myself out of any situation that is put in front of me. Being a person of faith I believe in a higher power and I believe that he gives me that greater power.

Tip #11. The Best make everyone around them better.

The Best make everyone around them better. As co- captain of the golf team what I set out to do with my team is challenge my teammates. In workouts I try to push the pace at workouts by doing heavy weights than the person next to me trying to light a fire within them. I believe in helping people even when they have never helped me because at the end of the day it’s helping them succeed. Being a person who challenges people in a positive way, I try and throw things at them that they never think they could do. They will never know what they are capable of until we are pushed to new heights. I don’t expected things from other people that I don’t expect from myself. I believe you should practice what you preach. A belief of mine is that when people see how things are done right they do it right the next time. Your only as good as the people around and if don’t make them better I’m not making myself better.

So the next time you see someone down help uplift them because I promise that can go a long way for someone. If someone helped you reach your best potential then spread the wealth and help someone discover there’s. Who are you to be “THE BEST” all on your own?

Staying Focused on Your Dream! Part 1

I can understand that sometimes life may get rough when working towards our dreams, but I promise you it is not in vain. In life your dreams require sacrifice, nurturing, and good old perseverance. While out in the world sometimes we get distracted and taken advantage of and it knocks us down.

As a future educator you have to be able to pick yourself up and inspire yourself because some people in the world will never understand what you go through. Being a teacher means you will always play more than one role in this life whether it be a mom, dad, teacher, counselor, and friend.Your ability to inspire will be an essential tool towards your dream.

From this years iRead book :Training Camp" I learned some valuable tips that I want to share with you. There are too many tips to share on this one blog, but look out for the part 2 for the continuance. I personally feel that some of these tips will help you stay focused on your dreams no matter where they may take you.

The first three tips are:
Tip #1. The Best know what they truly want.
Tip #2. The Best want it more.
Tip #7. The Best overcome their fears.

Tip #1. The Best know what they truly want.

The Best know what they truly want. As a future educator you have to truly love the craft, because society doesn't see our occupation as that important. What others fail to realize that no matter how many degrees that people have or how the economy changes, you will always need a teacher. A teacher is a necessity for the world to continue to thrive and be greater than what it is. In order to be what they call “The Best” you sometimes have to do the unpopular things no one wants to do, and by that I mean teach. Some say “Those that can will do, and those that can’t will TEACH!” I completely disagree because you teach concepts from a wide variety of subjects. I know that I want to be the one to help develop the future of my society into something better than it was before. Even when it comes to my aspiration of being a fire fighter, I know where I want to go with this occupation. The ability to help people left and right in stressful situations gives me a sense of fulfillment because someone was always there when my family or I needed help. I believe that in order to achieve great things you have to know where you’re going.

Tip #2. The Best want it more.

The Best want it more. When dealing with victims of fire damage you have to give them that sense that they are safe and everything is going to be OK. On days when I've been at work all-day, in-class, workouts, practice, and attending fire calls I am literally out of energy and have nothing left to give. My drive and determination to be the Best I can be keeps me going through sleepless nights and long days. When my body is telling me no I push the limits in order to make it because in the back of my mind I know that someone somewhere is doing a lot worse than me. I try not to take any day for gradate and make the most of my opportunities because I never know when it’s my last day.

Tip #7. The Best overcome their fears.

The Best overcome their fears. Unfortunately my life has been nothing but fear after fear, and it continues to be just that. I was diagnosed at the age of 17 with a heart defect called Bi-Gemini and Tri-Gemini with puts strain on my heart due to the numerous irregular heartbeats and occasionally causes blood clots. At that age for me I’m an all-American golf and softball athlete, dancer, theater art thespian, BPA (Business Professionals of America) president, Mademoiselle (community service organization), Student council (treasurer), and still student. It put a big “What-If?” on the rest of my senior year of high school. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to do the things that I love and that make me happy. For a long time I was depressed and didn't know where to turn, but with the help of my family and coaches they helped me realize that my condition can’t stop me from pushing on unless I let it. They drilled that into my mindset until when people ask me my story and how I made it, I respond “I overcame my biggest fears”. People always wonder how I still managed to be involved, and still be sick. My response always was “I could be at home and afraid of what comes next or I could be out and creating what comes next!” I overcame my fear of my condition that year by accepting what was happening to me and taking control over my life and what happens to me in it. My fear at one point my life again took control when I found out that I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in my sophomore year of college.

Doctors told me that I might be unable to have children and if it spreads out of control I might lose my life. That day my whole world came crumbling down because I had always pictured myself 15 years from now very successful and with children to call my own. I had to keep realizing that this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to fear. My biggest fear was not being able to experience college for what it is. At this point I was at a crossroad in my life on what to do. I decided to do as much of chemotherapy as I could without missing school, and letting it rule my life. I was blessed that summer after my sophomore year when I first started losing my hair. I was going natural so it wasn't obvious to others who didn't know my story. Another fear of mine that I fight on a daily and overcome is the fact that I never let anyone make me their charity case. I didn't tell people what was going on in my life because I never wanted anyone to take pity on me or treat me like I wasn't capable. I fought every day to keep fighting, and still to continue to do that. Someone wise once said “To escape fear, you have to go through it, not around.”, and I can honestly say that I've been through it, been there done that and got the t-shirt on fear. When my mother used to cry when she saw me in chemotherapy I told her that “It’s OKAY to be scared. Being scared means you’re about to do something really, really brave.” My mother has to be brave and accept the fact that she might outlive me and have to bury her baby girl. I've accepted the cards and I've been dealt and overcome my fear of death.

So as I come to a close I just want to remind you that no matter how far you go in life it will always be in reach if you know what you want. You must strive for where you wanna be, it might not always be easy, and you might make some unpopular decisions. Just remember that it's your life, do with it as you please.

How to maintain your Stress? Tip #1

Us as teachers sometimes become over whelmed with the stress of a classroom. We need to know how to address it properly without losing our passion for teaching. As I was researching different tips I came across these big three tips. I will be going over these three tips for the next few posts.

Even with these tips you have to understand your limits as a whole. I can remember my second grade teacher taking her frustration with her job out on the classroom. The only problem with that is your students feed off of your vibe and they display what they see. If  they see a negative reaction between the teacher and students it discourages them from interacting with the teacher.

"Teacher Stress Tip Number 1 - Understanding Stress"
"Teaching can be one of the most stressful careers. Normally, the stress does not come from the students that you are teaching, but the before school and after school meetings and overwhelming paperwork. As teachers, we have so many responsibilities and so little time to accomplish them. When we can't complete our daily tasks and responsibilities, this can often translate into failure, stress and teacher burnout. Let's take a moment to understand stress that you as the teacher may be experiencing."

Take what would normally be a stressful situation and turn it into something positive and fun! This does not mean, however, to be lazy and have no discipline. It's just an example.

Let's go over the feelings associated with stress, thoughts that go along with stress, and behaviors that you may be experiencing if you are stressed. Then we will discuss 10 ways to reduce teacher stress.

Feelings Associated with Stress:
• Anxious
• Scared
• Angry
• Frustrated
• Moody

Thoughts You May Have If You Are Stressed:
• Forgetfulness
• Fear of Failure
• Low Self-Esteem
• Worrying About the Future
• Can't Concentrate
• Complaining About Work

Behaviors You May Show If You Are Stressed:
• Crying
• Grinding Your Teeth
• Increase of a Normal Habit or Addiction
• Losing Your Appetite or Overeating
• Increased Heart Rate, Breathing or Sweating
• Trouble Sleeping
• Headaches
• Neck and Lower Back Pain

Ways to Reduce Teacher Stress
1. Become Aware of How You React In Stressful Situations
2. Be Positive, Speak Positive, Think Positive
3. At the end of the school day, think about all the things you achieved and finished rather that what you didn't have time to get done.
4. Learn to say NO to certain requests and after school duties. You can't do EVERYTHING, and you shouldn't!
5. Understand and Accept that a teacher is not a SUPER HERO and we do have limits. (Well, except for that crazy teacher in Kindergarten who stays until like 6pm every night!)
6. Find a Hobby and Ways to Relax at Home.
7. Exercise Regularly.
8. When you talk about your problems or issues regarding school, students, staff and administrators, make sure you are not complaining, but rather trying to figure out a solution.
9. Use Your Time Wisely. Evaluate how you spend your day, then make a weekly schedule and try to STICK TO IT.
10. Set Priorities and Realistic Goals.

Who Holds The Power In Your Classroom?

Sometime in classrooms you might have some students who disrupt classroom lessons and activities. They may disrupt class by having random outbursts, distracting other students from learning, and maybe even destroying classroom property. Situations like this are very delicate to continue the flow and positivity of your classroom. Never let your students she you frustrated by the situation or make your mood come off as you can't handle one student.

“I hate you, and I hate this school!”

This isn't the reaction educators are looking for in the middle of class. But disruptive and confrontational students are sometimes an unavoidable challenge. If handled poorly, these confrontations can lead to power struggles -- and more disruptions.
So what do you do in this type of situation? Do you you argue back and forth or do you just diffuse the situation? The reason why I wrote this is because there are a lot of students who are written up here and there and thrown into the discipline system because a teacher is incapable of making a breakthrough to that child or even attempt to. Some give up on students like that at the drop of a hat because that don't feel like dealing with it. What some instructors fail to realize is that sometimes negative behavior can spread like wild-fire, and can affect the other students in your classroom.

Your job is to create a safe learning environment for your students, and if that is ever threaten you need the PROPER tools to address the situation.
